Once again, President Donald Trump has proven that he is king of capturing the world’s attention on social media, when he claimed on Twitter that he turned down an offer from Time Magazine to be named the magazine’s “Man of the Year” for a second consecutive year. With almost 32 thousand retweets in only one day, the attack on Time Magazine is already one of his most talked about tweets of the whole month.
Although President Trump’s critics almost immediately jumped to accusing the President of flat-out lying about the phone call ever happening, it is definitely not out of the realm of possibility, given that President Trump has already been named “Man of the Year” by the magazine once before in 2016. Considering that his acceptance of that title earned the magazine a lot of extra publicity, it is definitely possible that editors at Time were considering him as a candidate once more.
Though we may never get a definitive answer about which side is telling the truth, it is quite clear that The President is the master of media manipulation, which in and of itself, is sure to garner him admiration from students of marketing, business, and campaign management in the coming decades.
